The CEN standards to support the EPBD

The CEN standards to support the EPBD were successively published in the years 2007-2008.

However, their implementation in the EU Member States is far from trivial: the standards cover a wide variety of levels and a wide range of interlaced topics from different areas of expertise. They comprise different levels of complexity and allow differentiation and national choices at various levels for different applications.

The role of the EPBD-CEN standards is to provide a common European concept and method for energy performance certification and energy inspections of buildings.

The energy directive-EPBD- allows for national and regional methods, which then may hinder free trade and exchange of services.

To promote uniform concepts and methods in Europe a series of CEN standards are now published.
