CENSE workshop
Target group: Standard writers, Policy makers

A workshop session on methods and procedural aspects for energy performance characterisation (Procedures and Requirements) – Core Theme 4.
Core Theme 4 is related to Articles 3 to 6 in the EPBD. This will include the actual chosen procedures in the MS and the way requirements have been set up. The main objective in Core Theme 4 is to provide a convenient forum for discussing practical implementation of the new standards in regulations and certification procedures in MS, particularly for identification of common approaches to simplification and alternatives which pose common difficulties that are best solved together by the MS in frank discussions. Although it will be difficult to find a common solution that will fit all MS, the range of solutions can be narrowed down to a few selected possibilities, allowing a first level of convergence within the EU.

Several projects under the EU Intelligent Energy program is dealing with the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and related CEN standards. The main objective of the ThermCo project is to establish a normative guideline for comfortable low-energy cooling concepts and consistent evaluation criteria for all European climate zones. The Objective of CENSE project is leading the CEN Standards on Energy performance of buildings to practice by effective support of the EPBD implementation and acceleration in the EU Member States. The CommonCense project seeks to use existing information from field surveys to test the limits set by EN15251 for temperature and lighting and to validate its recommendations using existing data and building simulations. Finally ASIEPI is dealing with the assessment and improvement of the EPBD Impact (for new buildings and building renovation) including summer comfort.
The objective of the workshop is briefly to present the projects and discuss the first results.

|
CENSE workshop
Target group: Consulting engineers, Universities, Manufacturers
Contact:
The purpose of this workshop is to explore these issues further, in the context of: - software companies considering the regulatory market as an extension to existing design tools or e.g. as part of building stock maintenance tools, - Member States, especially those who have not yet fully implemented the EPBD. The objectives of the workshop are: - to inform about the present legal situation and the use of such software in Europe - to exchange views and opinions (interest on a common European method, linking regulation and design) - to discuss and identify common actions to push forward the development and application of a European energy calculation. The main objective is to identify if there is an interest of a unified framework and, if this is the case, how to organise to reach this target.

Webseminar |
|
CENSE websiminar
Special web event, addressing the EPBD Concerted Action-II members (upon personal invitation)
Contact:
At this web event, the CENSE partners will present the series of recommendations regarding a second generation of the CEN standards to support the EPBD.
These recommendations are based upon extensive feed back on the experiences with the national/regional implementation and the use of the current set of CEN-EPBD standards.
The current CEN standards are used in many EU Member States, but often in a “practical way”.
E.g. by copying parts of CEN standards into national standards or building codes, mixed with national/regional choices and input data.
A more direct use would be much more efficient and transparent.
But at the same time room is needed for national/regional choices.
The recommendations include ways to meet both requirements.
The EPBD-recast calls for a wider spectrum of application, which is also reflected in these recommendations.
